Aberdeen Asset Management

Aberdeen Asset Management has 39 offices across the globe from New York to Tokyo, but remains firmly headquartered in Aberdeen, The Granite City. Aberdeen has a global team of 2,700 staff in 26 countries including 300 staff in Aberdeen.

The firm, founded in 1983, has recently reached the significant milestone of 25 years of being a listed company. When Aberdeen was first listed on the London Stock Exchange, its market capitalisation was £38 million; when the button was press to open the markets on Aberdeen’s silver anniversary, that figure was £3.6 billion. Aberdeen’s current assets under management are £303 billion as at 31 December 2016.

Aberdeen’s business is predominantly the active management of financial assets, using first-hand research to make investment decisions. Active investment spans equities, fixed income securities and property, sharing resources and a common investment approach.

As a pure asset manager, without the distractions of other financial services activities, Aberdeen is able to concentrate all resources on its core business. Assets are only managed for third parties – not Aberdeen’s own balance sheet – which helps reduce conflicts of interest.

The company is committed to delivering an extensive social responsibility agenda, helping young people as they grow and develop into adulthood and supporting the communities in which it operates to be strong and vibrant. Aberdeen is also a keen supporter of Scottish sporting events including the Ladies and Men’s Scottish Open and the Melrose Sevens.

Aberdeen has grown with the energy sector and in the years since the company launched, it has seen the North Sea industry and the city go through periods of growth and decline. It has witnessed the highs and the lows of offshore production, and will continue to stand alongside the industry as it evolves, innovates and inspires.
