The Acorn Project

Acorn is one of the UK’s leading carbon capture, transport and projects and is the infrastructure backbone of the Scottish Cluster, providing a clear pathway for the UK to meet its net zero targets. By reusing existing pipelines and other legacy infrastructure, it can be operational in the late 2020s and offer competitive CO2 transport and storage services to the UK and Europe. Acorn offers the potential to deliver significant economic growth and export revenue, sustaining jobs in Scotland and across the UK, creating world-leading expertise and the ability to export knowledge and skills to other projects. Acorn can be rapidly scaled up to support the deployment of a host of low-carbon technologies, including blue hydrogen infrastructure – offering a way of decarbonising our homes, industry and transport. Acorn is being developed by Storegga, Shell, Harbour Energy and North Sea Midstream Partners (NSMP).
